Joggers and sweatpants have become a wardrobe staple since the rise of work-from-home opportunities in 2020. But don’t worry: there are numerous ways to look presentable in public while wearing joggers. That means well-styled hair and the appropriate footwear!
There are numerous shoes that can be worn with joggers. Sneakers are obviously some of the best shoes to wear with sweatpants for all-around comfort. However, many sweatpants, boots, and even heels can work. Especially if you want to improve your appearance!
Today, I’ll go over 8 perfect shoes to wear with joggers, as well as how to top it off with the right coat, purse, accessories, and coats, if the weather calls for it.
You’ll even learn what shoes to wear with dressy joggers with heels, such as silky or faux leather ones, so you can enjoy the comfort of joggers even at a fancy event!
Joggers vs Sweatpants – What’s the difference?
Before we dive into what shoes to wear with joggers, let’s differentiate between what joggers and sweatpants. Most people refer to this pant type interchangeably, like I do and will continue doing in this post. But there is a difference.
Joggers are made of a lighter material, with a bit of a stretch to them. This was originally for the purpose of breathability while running. If you have a tracksuit, the pants are likely a style of joggers. Most are tapered to the ankles, cinched by a ribbed cuff.
Sweatpants are made for cold weather and are composed of a thicker material, usually with a fuzzy lining. As such, they are much bulkier than joggers. Many have a straight leg, are sometimes wide legged. Howevr, they can also be tapered at the ankles with by an elastic cuff.
Most shoes that go with joggers also go with sweatpants. In each shoes with joggers section, I’ll specify what style of jogger, or pr even sweatpants go with the shoes in question and how to complete the look.
How To Wear Joggers With Heels
In order to wear joggers without looking like you just rolled out of bed, you need to find a pair that not only fits you well but also complements the pieces you plan to pair it with.
You can 100% still wear joggers as sweatpants, but did you know there are joggers out there that can be dressed up, too? Check out these 8 simple ways to style joggers with pieces you might already have in your closet.
#1 Scrunch Joggers In Calf
This is obviously a more dressed-up joggers outfit, but it’s still very comfortable! These joggers are extremely comfortable thanks to the adjustable drawstring, and the elastic ankle allows you to play with the length.
I found this pair to be a little too long for me, so I scrunched them up around my calf with the elastic ankle for a different look. When wearing joggers with ankle strap heels, choose a pair that fits snugly a few inches above the ankle. Your joggers should not cover the ankle strap.
These joggers are only $20 and are made entirely of Polyurethane, giving them a sassier, edgier vibe. This look is fantastic when paired with a bodysuit, strappy heels, and a chic bag.
#2 Wearing Sneakers and a T-Shirt
Sure, dressing up joggers is fun, but being able to wear them as more appropriate sweatpants is also amazing lol. I like how, despite the fact that these are more of a sweatpant material, the slim fit and tapered ankle make them look more appropriate for wearing as an outfit.
Pair them with your favorite tee and comfy sneakers for a great outfit for running errands or chasing your kids around!
Side note: Despite being extremely comfortable, these joggers run large – I’m wearing an xs but usually wear a small. I’ve also read a lot of reviews on these sneakers that claim they run large. They don’t run long to me, but they do run wide. I stayed with my usual size, and they fit perfectly (and I have narrow feet).
#3 Wearing a Crop Top
If you want to show a little more skin, or if you want a more risque joggers outfit, pair them with a crop top. A simple white crop top is easy to find and instantly transforms joggers from casual to edgy.
If you want to be a little more covered, throw on a moto jacket or an oversized sherpa.
#4 Wearing Combat Boots
Combat boots are making a big comeback! If you’re a fan of the look of combat boots, try them with your favorite joggers. The great thing about combat boots and joggers is that if it gets cold, you can still look stylish by throwing on an oversized sweatshirt.
Find a pair of combat boots and joggers with a chunky heel for a different take on the look. These are just as comfortable, but they give your outfit a different look. Here are a few pairs that are currently on the market.

#5 Strappy Heels and a Bodysuit
This outfit is similar to the first one I showed you, but the ankle isn’t scrunched all the way up to the calf. This particular material (vegan leather) elevates the joggers, making them suitable for pairing with a chic bodysuit and heels.
#6 As A Matching Set
Finding a pair of joggers that are part of a matching set transforms your outfit from blah to YEAH! Coordination sets are a stylish way to stay comfortable while looking put together. Simply look for a set that includes joggers with tapered ankles and some structure.
#7 Wearing a Cute Pair of Sneakers
Another simple way to elevate your look is to pair joggers with a simple tee and a standout pair of sneakers. The fun print on these sneakers draws attention away from the fact that you’re dressed in loungewear.
#8 Wearing a Denim Jacket
Putting on a denim jacket over any top completely transforms the look. This outfit is appropriate for running errands, picking up your children from school, or going on a coffee date!
I appreciate outfits that are versatile and can easily transition from one event to the next, and a denim jacket certainly helps with that. Here are a few of my favorites!
